Well I wondered. It’d be nice to have ADF extracted as well.
from what I understand the Krus’ extraction utility is TAW-specific.
after downloading all those ADF missions, I’m pretty sure the mission makers had had such a program.

so, could someone provide me w/ some ADF extraction tools?

Isn’t ADF different from TAW by the missions only? Missions are out in the open without extraction. Are they not?

I occasionally enjoy ADF’s quick combat mode (with on-screen score keeping) and hand crafted single missions, if just for something different. But lack of a mission planner (you can’t even choose your own loadout) and Tour of Duty campaign missions starting you in mid-air is a letdown IMO, even with canned missions.

nope. just like in TAW, it’s all packed up in a nice did.dat file, different from TAW’s of course.
if you setup missions by yourself, they can work from outside, because the game ignores the internal files if it finds replacements in its directory.

I’m certain both games use the same data hiding technology.
I’m sure that the extraction utility for TAW is based on an extraction utility made for ADF.
somewhere, someone must still have it.

@ Mark: the appeal of ADF’s scripted missions consists of two things:
(1) you get more than one chance to do it right … you can even choose to learn the mission if you want.
(2) there’s scripted variety, and easter eggs.

while its true that, after long, intensive work, you can clean the whole game world of baddies, and you’re left all alone, few things match the joy of taking down a hidden Egyptian squadron. (Egypt TOD, Arabian Sword, Northern Egypt)

that was just an example. TAW provides nice things too, like hunting down the A-50’s. That’s my main source of joy, since I raided most of Sudan’s airfields, and now it’s as quiet as ever. 😁

OK!! now, back to that extraction utility.
anybody have it? 😄

ADF files can be extracted using the Multiex tool, although they will be given temporary filenames. To link the files with the correct filenames requires finding the part of the code where the did.dat file is handled … at the moment I don’t know where this is, although I haven’t looked very hard.
There’s a post from Krus (about spring 2006) which explains this technique in more detail. Maybe you could try and find that. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to help right now.
